The Organizing Crazy Lady

The past month was sort of a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of month, especially when it came to our menu. I think that's how January usually is for me, though. There's usually not much going on, the weather outside is so cold, and it's the beginning of a fresh, new year, so I get the urge to ORGANIZE! Oh, I just love to organize... it really makes me happy. Okay, most people probably think I'm weird, but that's just how it is.

I go from project to project... cleaning out files, cupboards, drawers... restoring everything to order again... then dinner time comes around and oops, oh yeah, dinner! It's the last thing I want to think about when I'm organizing stuff. I really have to pull myself away from whatever I'm doing to make dinner. So the past month, I didn't do much menu planning or baking days like I normally do.

I think part of it, too, is that I spend so much time in the kitchen during November and December (which is one of my favorite things to do during those months) that come January, the kitchen is the last place I want to be.... unless I'm, say, organizing the pantry or something... which is what I did today!

Today was actually a very productive day in the kitchen.

Here's all the stuff I got done:

-planned my menu for the month of February
-wrote up my grocery lists for each week of Feb (with more to be added later)
-reorganized the pantry
-refilled all the flour, sugar & spice containers, etc
-and planned out my baking day, which will probably be on Wednesday this week (I'll fill you in on my plans for that soon).

I have to say it feels good to be caught up on all of that... to know exactly what food I have on hand, what I still need to buy, what we'll be eating this month, and to have everything coordinated. And it was so nice... I didn't even have to think about dinner tonight because we were invited over to our friends' home for dinner! Yay!

A Conversation at Dinner

Questions from my son at dinner tonight...

"It's kind of weird how God put Jordan in your tummy, Mom. How did he get in there? Was he always in there? Was he in your tummy the same time as me?"

Hmmmm.......... how do you answer that to an eight-year old boy???

Scrapbooking With My Son

Posted by Picasa
We've decided to take a little break from our normal homeschool curriculum... at least for now. Instead, my oldest son, Joshua, who is almost eight, and I are SCRAPBOOKING together!! It's something I've been wanting to do with him for a long time, but have always put off.

We scrapbooked a little bit together when he was younger, but it's been at least a couple of years since then. I figure if I don't take the time to do this with him now, he will get to the point where he's not interested in it anymore, and I will miss out on that chance.

I used to scrapbook a LOT. And I used to go scrapbook SHOPPING even more. Which means I have boxes and boxes of scrapbooking stuff that I have never used, and I am very behind in my scrapbooks. So a week ago, I pulled all that stuff out and I've been enjoying getting back into it. And it's neat to see my son enjoying a hobby that I love so much!

One of the days last week, I had been scrapbooking with him, but then I had to go do some errands. So I left the boys home with Dad, and he continued to sit there scrapbooking for the 2 1/2 hours I was gone! So yeah, he's really into it, and he's pretty good at it, too. He's actually getting more pages done than ME (and he thinks that's REALLY cool)!

Free Redbox Movies

Every Monday is movie night at our house. FREE movie night, that is. We usually get two... one that's kid-friendly and one for just my hubby and me. I was soooooo excited when I first came across this deal. Redbox is usually only a dollar anyway, so if you rent it for free just one time, I understand you're not really saving much. But if you figure we watch two every Monday, that's about eight per month, so it would add up quick! It's a fun family night for us. Especially since Mondays are always so busy around here. That's when I'm usually getting my week all planned out and sometimes even getting out and getting some of my shopping done, too, if I'm on top of things.

Anyway, so here's what you do to get your free movie. You can go to every Monday (or I will sometimes post it here) to see what the free code is for the day. It expires at midnight, so you can pick up your free movie anytime during that day. Now, if you use a different credit/debit card for each transaction, you can get more than one movie. They won't charge your card unless you turn it in late, which then it would be $1 per night, and they are always due by 9:00 pm.

If you've never used Redbox before, you can go to to see how it all works. We usually check the site before we leave to choose the movie we want and see which location it's at. There's one by our house, and we usually just choose a movie that's there, unless we know we'll be over in another part of town that day. The cool thing is that you can always return it to any location you want. If you're paying for your movie, you can reserve it online, then go pick it up. But if you're using a free code, then it won't let you do that. Just check online right before you leave, and it will probably still be there when you go to pick it up.

There are usually various other free codes out there for Redbox at any given time. You can see which ones are currently working at especially if you want to rent a movie on a day other than a Monday. A few of the codes out there right now are: "redbox", "breakroom", "dvdonme", and if you use a Redbox at a McDonald's location, you can use "mcdwntr". Have fun!

My First Post!

I've been wanting to start a blog like this for months!! My mind has been full of ideas of things I would post. Especially since I read a lot of blogs on a regular basis and come across lots of great deals and information on the internet. But I haven't had a place to keep it all organized and in one place. Therefore, I'm always losing things and not staying as organized as I'd like.

But I just never was quite ready for this type of blog... until now. You see, we only got high speed internet about a month ago, and before that, well, it would have taken way more of my time than I really have the time for. I do have a family scrapbook type of blog that I do in order to keep friends and relatives updated, as well as it being for a keepsake. But that's a different type of blog, and I don't want to clutter that up with miscellaneous stuff that my relatives all have to sift through just to see what we've been up to. But I do intend to put stuff on here about my family, too... and homeschooling... and well, whatever else I feel like at the time.

So I'm really excited to finally have a place to keep all this stuff, and maybe even be a blessing to someone else along the way. I think it'll also be great accountability for me to stay on top of things like menu planning, how much I'm spending on groceries, etc. So here goes... off and running!
